The Institute for Economic Development is where research meets action. Launched in 2024, the Institute is an initiative for global collaboration in tackling key development challenges. We bring together think tanks, academics, and experts to mobilize the ideas that fuel smart solutions. Development research can generate real change when ideas are disseminated widely, refined, and tailored to local contexts. That’s where we come in, turning knowledge into real-world impact. We do this by amplifying new ideas and voices – especially from developing countries; by partnering with local think tanks and experts; and by expanding access across languages and borders.
Mission
From ideas to impact, we build partnerships to make knowledge accessible and move solutions forward – fast, far, and for all.
Our Global Presence
We operate through a network of three regional centers in Rome, Tokyo, and Washington, DC. These centers are set up to build strong local partnerships, generate policy-relevant knowledge, and facilitate the flow of ideas between local institutions and global discussions. Each regional center serves as a platform for engagement, collaboration, and learning. This setup helps us tailor our work to local needs while supporting the World Bank’s global development agenda. Together, they make sure development knowledge is both globally connected and locally relevant.
