The Middle-Income Trap

The Institute for Economic Development is pleased to invite you to join us to explore the Middle-Income Trap in the Asian context. The event is hosted in partnership with the Institute for Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO), and Asahi Shimbun, a leading regional newspaper.

Drawing on insights from the 2024 World Development Report, the program will highlight the risks countries face when growth stalls after reaching middle-income status and the policy pathways available to avoid stagnation.

The discussions will feature contributions from policymakers, academics, journalists, and development experts. Special emphasis will be placed on how lessons from across Asia can inform the strategies of countries at different stages of development.

The event is open to the public. Registration details will be posted soon.
