Growth Academy for the Middle East and North Africa
What can Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries do to boost economic growth in the region? The MENA Growth Academy conference provided a clear roadmap, sharing strategies for economic growth, productivity enhancement, and overcoming the middle-income trap.
Building on the success of the inaugural Growth Academy in Washington D.C. and Chicago last year, the Institute for Economic Development, the University of Chicago, and Economic Research Forum of Egypt, organized this conference in Cairo, Egypt.
Structured around the key themes of the World Development Report 2024: The Middle-Income Trap, the conference focused on the concepts of creative destruction, challenges and opportunities for countries in the region, and innovative approaches to boosting productivity.
Participants included think tanks, policymakers, researchers, academics, and practitioners from the region, all dedicated to enhancing productivity and economic growth using the latest, most innovative tools.
The event closed with a workshop on the Modelling Long-Term Growth in Developing Countries, which included group discussions and hands-on exercises for participants to model the growth of their countries.
Stay tuned for the upcoming ECA Growth Academy and apply to participate here.
