Housing Subsidies for Refugees Seminar
Experimental Evidence on Life Outcomes and Social Integration in Jordan.
There are 37 million refugees among the 184 million people living outside their country of nationality. Nearly half of them live in low- and middle-income countries. How can countries turn this challenge into an opportunity?
Hosted by the Institute for Economic Development and John Cabot University, this seminar focused on the results of a housing assistance program in Jordan. Sandra Rozo, Senior Economist at the World Bank, presented findings from the study "Housing Subsidies for Refugees: Experimental Evidence on Life Outcomes and Social Integration in Jordan." This study explored how targeted housing assistance for Syrian refugees affected not only their well-being, but also relationships with host communities.
When we support forced displacement communities, it is important not to isolate them but to try to actually integrate them in existing safety nets for all vulnerable communities. - Sandra Rozo, World Bank Senior Economist.
Following the presentation, Tulia Gattone of John Cabot University presented key takeaways and recommendations from the research perspective. The seminar brought together participants from international organizations, researchers, and university students who had the opportunity to engage in an open discussion to ask questions and exchange ideas.
