Rethinking Resilience: Building sustainable futures in a world of polycrisis

The slow progress on poverty reduction in the past years reflects critical global conditions driven by several and overlapping challenges that lead to polycrisis. To reverse this slowdown and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet, action is needed now. This is why the Institute for Economic Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) co-organized the event “Rethinking Resilience: Building Sustainable Futures in a World of Polycrisis.”

The conversation explored knowledge from two World Bank’s reports, the “Poverty, Prosperity, and Planet Report 2024: Pathways Out of the Polycrisis,” and the “Rethinking Resilience: Adapting to a Changing Climate” report.

The event featured speakers from FAO, IFAD, WFP, academics, and Deputy Chairs of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate action from the Netherlands and Uganda.

Participants included researchers, experts, development practitioners, and think tanks who joined in person and online to discuss solutions and ideas to boost shared prosperity while promoting resilience amid climate risks.
