From Bytes to Benefits - Raising prosperity through digital transformation
The Institute for Economic Development was pleased to co-organize this year's e-Governance Conference: From Bytes to Benefits, along with the e-Governance Academy of Estonia (eGA), one the most reputable and oldest provider of digital transformation policies across the globe, and Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Held in Tallin, Estonia, the conference brought together global leaders, technology experts, private sector representatives, and development practitioners to explore how digital transformation is driving economic growth and boosting innovation in the public sector.
Indermit Gill, World Bank Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for Development Economics, delivered the keynote speech and introduced the idea of the “middle-income trap,” a key concept to understand how countries can advance their economies in the digital age. Gill highlighted the global challenges to sustained growth and the reforms needed to break the main barriers, including the infusion of technological innovation to the economy. His presentation resonated well with conference participants since it offered a non-technical rationale in explaining the benefits of technology and development in general.
"Getting out of the middle-income trap isn’t about copying past models, but making digital transformation serve people. And enable institutions to keep pace with ambition," Gill said.
Over the two-day program, participants from the region and abroad engaged in discussions and side workshops to explore how to leverage digital tools to build stronger economies and societies.
Looking ahead, the Institute will continue its collaboration with eGA focusing on advancing knowledge in digitalization and exploring the potential of AI-driven solutions.
