Meeting Africa’s Energy Needs
Jakkie Cilliers, Chairman of the ISS board of Trustees and Head of the African Futures and Innovation Program, joined the recent Africa Growth and Opportunity: Research in Action (AGORA) Conference and delivered a keynote address on Meeting Africa’s Energy Needs.
In his address, Mr. Cilliers emphasized that without an agricultural revolution, reliable electricity, and widespread internet access, Africa cannot leapfrog into a sustainable future. In his presentation he underscored that bold investments in renewable energy, infrastructure, and governance reforms are critical to unlocking this potential while avoiding a carbon-intensive growth model.
Without an agricultural revolution, we will not be able to go up the manufacturing curve...and without electricity and Internet access, Africa cannot leapfrog.
