Enhancing External Debt Statistics for Greater Transparency and Sustainability
The Enhancing External Debt Statistics for Greater Transparency and Sustainability workshop in Chiba, Japan, marked the Institute for Economic Development's first engagement in East Asia and the Pacific. Organized by the Institute, with support from the Government of Japan and the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific, the workshop featured a keynote speech by Indermit Gill, Chief Economist of the World Bank Group and Sr VP for Development Economics, and a presentation by Takahiro Tsuda, Director in the Multilateral Development Banks Division at Japan’s Ministry of Finance.
The event brought together professionals from debt management offices, central banks, and experts on debt statistics who engaged in group discussions and simulations, exchanging insights on how to apply new methodologies within their local contexts.
The workshop ended with a forward-looking session on sustainable financing, focusing on the World Bank’s Sustainable Development Finance Policy (SDFP) and the evolving global debt landscape.
